Legstand
Legstand is the home for special projects - art, music, movies - and products created by Kris Elgstrand.
The name comes from a funny misspelling of “Elgstrand” which, for what it’s worth, apparently means Moose Beach in Swedish. Go ahead. Say it to a Swede. They will laugh at you like you’ve just said the stupidest thing they’ve ever heard. Though his last name is Swedish, Kris himself is not Swedish. At the time of this writing, he knows no Swedish people.

Kris Elgstrand
Born in Vancouver but raised downwind of the often very smelly Coquitlam River - the smell came from the spawning salmon that expired on its banks and rotted there which is not only true but also a metaphor for a certain suburban experience - Kris has written several plays, some of which have been produced, and written, produced, and/or directed several films.
A partner in The Whatever Institute with Dylan Akio Smith, Kris’ work as a screenwriter and producer includes The Cabin Movie (TIFF 2005), Man Feel Pain (Winner BravoFACT Short Cuts Canada Award, TIFF 2004), and Big Head (TIFF 2009). Together, Dylan and Kris directed the feature-length , Doppelganger Paul, which premiered at TIFF in 2011. In 2014, Kris wrote and directed the feature film Songs She Wrote About People She Knows, which also premiered at TIFF and went on to win the New Directors Prize at the Nashville Film Festival and Best Narrative Feature at San Francisco IndieFest.
Somewhat inexplicably, Kris released a CD in 2011 called, Songs of the Sad Sack, Volume 1: I’m so disappointed. It is available at kriselgstrand.bandcamp.com and the major (and minor) music streaming services. Additional volumes may appear at odd intervals in the coming years.
